Did you know that gum disease is the biggest cause of tooth loss in the UK?
Did you also know that regular visits to the dental team, including our wonderful hygienists can work to prevent gum disease and help prevent tooth loss?
The hygienists at Hampton House Dental Practice have an excellent understanding of the best care for teeth and gums to either help them maintain their health or help them to return to a healthy state.
Because gum disease is often not painful many people neglect to do anything about red, sore or bleeding gums until the disease is well advanced. However, by then it can be too late! Ensuring that you visit the hygiene team as often as advised means they can treat any gum disease that might already be established as well as give you the skills and advice you need to ensure that you can prevent future issues.
Does it hurt?
Usually, treatment with the hygiene team is pain-free. If you have sore gums or sensitive teeth then you may experience a small degree of discomfort. The more often you visit, the less this discomfort usually becomes.
My gums already bleed when I brush my teeth?
If you are already experiencing red, sore or bleeding gums then it’s probably due to gum disease and you would benefit from a hygiene visit before things progress further. You may find that you start to have bad breath or your teeth become loose.
How often should I see the hygienist?
How often you need to visit the hygiene team depends on your own individual dental needs. Some patients will see the hygiene team every three months because they’ll be on a treatment plan to combat extensive gum disease. Others, who maintain an excellent level of oral care at home including flossing regularly, may only need to attend every 9-12 months.
If you have any concerns about your gums or mouth, please contact the team today to discuss booking a consultation.
